BC Cannabis Stores opening in Vanderhoof and Prince George

PRINCE GEORGE – Come Tuesday (July 14, 2020), BC Cannabis Stores (BCCS) will be opening its latest store in Vanderhoof, followed by a store in Prince George on Thursday (July 16, 2020).

The Vanderhoof location with be at 2444 Burrard Avenue, and it the 18th government-run store to open in the province. Its regular hours of operation will be 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday to Sunday and most statutory holidays. The 2,200 sq. ft store will be staffed by approximately six to eight employees.

The second store in Prince George will be located at 6111 Southridge Avenue within the West Gate SmartCentres. The new location will be opening three months after the BCCS Pine Centre began serving the community. The store will operate from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday to Wednesday, 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday to Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, and 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday and most statutory holidays. 10 to 12 people will be employed at the 4490 sq. ft store.

“While the fight against COVID-19 continues, we are committed to following through on our plan to roll out our network of stores following safety protocols and eliminate the illicit cannabis market,” said Kevin Satterfield, Director of Retail Operations, Cannabis operations, Liquor Distribution Branch. “BC Cannabis Stores is also looking forward to meeting our neighbours and customers, as we begin a long tenure in the Vanderhoof and Prince George communities.”

Both stores will offer a range of products including edibles, extracts, topicals, dried cannabis flower, oils, capsules and pre-rolls; all of which are approved by Health Canada.

In order to keep cannabis out of the hands of youth, stores will employ a strict two-ID check for people who look under the age of 30, which ensures only those over the age of 19 enter the stores.

BC Cannabis Stores are operated by the LDB, one of two branches of government responsible for the non-medical cannabis and beverage alcohol industries in BC. It contributes over $1.1 billion annually to the province, providing funding for services like health care and education.
