Not yet, but soon: Ride hailing postponed

Jul 14, 2020 | 2:22 PM

PRINCE GEORGE—Prince George residents longing for ride-hailing services in the north will have to wait a little longer.

Coastal Rides—a ride-hailing service—was supposed to launch today (July 14, 2020) but it’s launch has been postponed.

Ryan Staley, owner of Coastal Rides says that getting drivers all set up and ready for operations is taking a little longer than anticipated.

“It’s really about getting enough drivers on board and there’s a whole slew of documents we need to do and drivers need to get their vehicles inspected.”—Ryan Staley, owner, Coastal Rides

Staley says that part of that slew of things is also getting drivers to abide by health regulations, including having plexiglass between the front and back seats to prevent any potential spread of COVID-19. According to Staley the launch has been postponed until closer to the end of the month, however, has no specific date set.

In order to be able to give riders the experience they’re hoping for Staley says that Coastal Rides needs 10 to 15 drivers in the city, however, says to start half a dozen is enough.

“We are definitely working on recruiting more drivers.”—Ryan Staley, owner, Coastal Rides

For those interested in being ride-hailing drivers, information can be found on Coastal Rides’ website.

Staley says that due to the COVID-19 pandemic he doesn’t think Coastal Rides’ launch will be as successful as it would have been without, but mentions that they are taking the necessary precautions to ensure staff and public safety. Contact-less payment will be available as well as a plexiglass barrier and routine sanitizing of the vehicle after every customer.
