PG Golf & Curling Club experiencing an increase in tee-times in 2020

“Golf is one of those sports where you can participate, be outside, enjoy the fresh air, and still deal with the social distancing concerns and health matters.”

With more people coming to the course, the Club has also seen a significant increase in the younger demographic coming out to play, which bodes well for the future of the sport in Prince George.

“Golf always had a stigma that it took a long time and was an elite sport, but it’s changing. We are trying to make it more enjoyable for the public here. We have reduced our round time significantly by changing some of the rules. We probably have our rounds down to about three and a half hours or four.”

Due to Covid-19, golf will look a little bit different when you hit the links and the PG Golf and Curling Club have implemented a few new measures to help with social distancing and keeping golfers safe.

“We have our protocols and trying to minimize the touch points. Some of the things we have done at the Club are removing the rakes, not having the pins removed, adding a lifting device to remove the ball from the hole, we have also limited access to our clubhouse and closed the locker rooms,” explained McDermid.

The club held their first tournament this past weekend since Covid-19, but when it comes to future tournaments, each one will be looked at on a case by case basis to see if they are able to take place.
