Cannabis worker security verification period extended to five years

Jul 15, 2020 | 6:00 AM

VICTORIA–The Province has amended worker qualification regulations for non-medical cannabis workers to extend their security verification period from two to five years.

Previously, cannabis workers in non-medical cannabis stores were required to renew their security verification every two years. Security screening and re-screening requirements were implemented as a measure to keep organized crime out of the legal, non-medical cannabis market.

Screenings involved individuals getting background checks with police, courts and corrections databases. The change helps reduce costs to cannabis workers, ensuring that they can continue working without any interruption.

Workers with a current valid security verification will have their verification period extended to five years from the date of their initial verification.
