RCMP remind public to be safe when heading outdoors: Kayakers stranded on Quesnel River
QUESNEL–RCMP are reminding summertime adventure seekers to be safe when heading into nature after two kayakers were in need of rescue.
According to Quesnel RCMP they received a report of male and female kayakers in need of assistance. The man reported having flipped his kayak and that the female went missing on the Quesnel River, north of the Bastin Road Bridge near Quesnel.
“It is important for recreational users in the Quesnel area to be mindful of the current conditions. The water levels in the rivers are high and there is debris floating in the water as a result.”–Sgt. Richard Weseen, Quesnel RCMP Detachment
Quesnel RCMP responded to the call while also requesting assistance from Quesnel Search and Rescue. Police were able to get in contact with the male and obtain his approximate location through GPS. The female managed to walk out to a rural property on her own, safely, before the search for the male started. Neither of the kayakers were from the Quesnel area.
