Confirmed case of COVID-19 at Site C camp in Fort St. John

VANCOUVER–B.C. Hydro has confirmed a COVID-19 case at the Site C work camp in Fort St. John.

In a release from BC Hydro it says that the worker arrived from Alberta on July 13, and immediately self-isolated after receiving test results from Alberta Health Services on July 15. Northern Health provided a second test on July 16 which confirmed that the worker was in fact infected with the virus.

“The worker is being cared for by the on-site health clinic, which has the trained staff, facilities and supplies required to provide health care to workers in isolation or quarantine. The worker will continue isolating in their room, which is in a separate dormitory and away from other workers, until they are medically cleared to leave.”–Release from BC Hydro

It is believed that the worker had not left the camp or been in contact with the local community prior to self-isolating. B.C. Hydro says that Northern Health has initiated contact tracing and that workers are being reminded to self-monitor themselves and report any symptoms.

B.C. Hydro says they have been monitoring the situation with COVID-19 closely since January and have implemented extensive measures to protect workers.
