Connaught Youth Centre needs help

PRINCE GEORGE – The Connaught Youth Centre needs some help.

“It shut us down completely” stated Bill Nielson, President of the Connaught Youth centre Society when asked about the impacts of the COVID pandemic. “The only income we’re getting is from the rental from the cadets and the Quilters, who have supplies and fixtures inside the building.”

But that is too little to help with the operational costs of the facility, which actually accommodates upwards of 20 different organizations.

One group, the Air Cadets, will hear in early September if they can resume gatherings.

National Defence will do an assessment of the situation to see whether they will re-opening small gatherings.

“And it’s based on the whole of Canada, not just how we’re doing in BC,” says Cameron Stolz, Chair of the 396 Air Cadets. “So while British Columbia may be doing really well, they look at Quebec and Ontario as well. So we may not be parading until 2021.”

As a result, Nielson has launched an official fundraising campaign via social media.
