VICTORIA—42 per cent of postponed surgeries in the Northern Health Region have been completed from May through June.

In a media address, Health Minister Adrian Dix and former president and CEO of Fraser Authority, Michael Marchbank reviewed the the province’s Surgical Renewal Commitment.

“I think it’s fair to say that our initial progress is encouraging and I think has been quite significant, however, I don’t want to say that everything is going to be perfect because I don’t think it is. There’s a lot of hard work ahead of us.”–Michael Marchbank, former president and CEO of Fraser Authority, and consultant to the Ministry of Health

As of June 25 health authorities reported 52 per cent of the patients whose surgeries had been postponed, were called and had their surgeries completed. Those surgeries took place between May 18 and June 25.

In the north 724 surgeries were postponed and 42 per cent of those have now been completed. From May 18 through June 25 Northern Health completed 85 per cent of last year’s operation room hours.
