Province supports SAR with $6 million in funding
VICTORIA–$6 million towards supporting search and rescue in B.C. that is what the Provincial Government is committing through Budget 2020.
The contribution is set to begin in 2022-23 and will help support the work of British Columbia’s 2,500 ground search and rescue volunteers. B.C.’s Minister of Public Safety, Mike Farnworth is asking British Columbians to do their part to support search and rescue crews by staying safe on any outdoor adventures they have planned.
“Funding is only one way to show our support. Search and rescue volunteers take a risk every time they go out to rescue someone, and that risk is heightened due to COVID 19. I’m calling on all British Columbians to be safe and to make sure your family, friends and neighbours are being safe, so we can reduce the risks for everyone.”– Mike Farnworth, B.C.’s Minister of Public Safety
In March of 2019, the Provincial Government announced the single largest provincial ground search and rescue investment in B.C.’s history, along with close to $10 million in funding provided each year for operational costs.
