Family of four-stranded on Fraser River after engine troubles

Jul 23, 2020 | 2:09 PM

PRINCE GEORGE– Prince George Search and Rescue responded to a call of a family of four-stranded on the Fraser River Wednesday night.

What was supposed to be a quick evening boat ride on the Fraser River near Shelley quickly turned into much more than that after the family experienced engine troubles on their jet boat. The family called for help and ended up floating downstream.

PG SAR Swiftwater technicians along with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans and Prince George Fire Rescue responded to the call at around midnight.

“People should be prepared with other means of propulsion or self-rescue, this boat had an anchor which helped stop the boat from floating down the river further.” –Dave Merritt, manager, Prince George Search and Rescue
