‘We don’t believe in penalizing people for personal behaviour,’: Premier says appealing to public is best way to tackle COVID-19 safety
VICTORIA–Appealing to the public to be safe, that is what B.C. Premier John Horgan says is the best method to tackle COVID-19 safety across the Province.
Horgan opened his media availability today by addressing the people at events in Kelowna, and the drum circle in Vancouver earlier this week, “come on, you’re better than that,” said Horgan. When asked if there is something more that the Province can do to stop large events in the midst of a pandemic Horgan said that there are various tools at their disposal, however, says that appealing to British Columbians is what has worked in the past.
“I am appealing to British Columbians to use their good sense and don’t get together in large groups of people you don’t know. That’s a recipe for your personal disaster that could then spread to your family, to your loved ones, to your grandparents.”–John Horgan, Premier Horgan
“We don’t believe in penalizing people for personal behaviour, we prefer instead to ask them to behave better,” said the Premier. While British Columbia is seeing a spike in COVID-19 cases this week, at an average of 30 cases every day, Horgan mentions that there is still time to flatten the curve. The Premier compared B.C.’s average daily case numbers to those in Washington which average almost 800 new cases a day, and Alberta where they are seeing over 100 cases daily.
