Spiridakis excited for new opportunity with Spruce Kings

It has been a busy off-season for the Prince George Spruce Kings both on and off the ice.

As soon as the calendar hit June 1st, the team began to make a flurry of transactions which included acquiring Quinnipiac commit Austin Spiridakis.

Spiridakis hails from St.Albert, Alberta and was acquired from the Alberni Valley Bulldogs.

“I was super pumped. The Spruce Kings are a great organization,” stated Spiridakis to CKPG.

Despite being just 17-years-old, the speedy Spiridakis has already played two years in the BCHL and saw his numbers improve with 12 goals and 7 assists this past season.

“I just felt I had more confidence out there. I could control the puck longer and see more plays opening-up and just felt overall like I fit more in the league the 2nd year compared to the 1st year.”

Now the St.Albert product is getting ready for his first season in Prince George and in the mix.

Spiridakis is hopeful his memories of the Rolling Mix Concrete Arena can improve as his two trips to PG with the Bulldogs were less than ideal.

“It has been a horrible experience both games,” laughed Spiridakis.

“I think we lost 7-2 to my first year and then 8-2 last year. It hasn’t been great. It was a bad bus ride back to Chilliwack through the night. I definitely want to do that to other teams that come into our barn.”

Spiridakis and his teammates will have to wait until December 1st before the potential start of the BCHL season, but is something which the young forward knows will be worth the wait.

“I was talking to some of the guys after that came out and I was thrilled about it. It seems awesome what Prince George is setting up for us. I am okay with pushing the season a little bit back as long as we get to play the full season.”

When it comes to goals for the 2020-2021 season for Spiridakis, steady improvement and winning is on his mind.

“I definitely want to win a playoff round. I have yet to win a playoff round in Junior hockey. I really want to do that. I will do anything to win that one round and then go from there. Personal wise, I just want to grow my game even more. Produce more points. More assists. More goals and just be an all-around reliable player. Play any role and play any position.”
