British Columbia conservation officers say a young girl is recovering after being bitten by a black bear in North Vancouver. The Conservation Officer Service says the 10-year-old girl was walking along the Rice Lake Loop with her family when the incident occurred Friday afternoon.

It says in a social media post that a bystander helped scare the bear away and that the girl was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries and no one else was hurt. The service said last night its predator attack team was looking for the bear and the investigation is ongoing.

The park is closed to the public until further notice.
