PRINCE GEORGE – The first ride-sharing service is scheduled to hit the streets of Prince George this week (Monday, July 27, 2020).

Coastal Rides is a ride-hailing company that operates in the Sunshine Coast and its licenses also include the Prince George area.

Coastal Rides will begin with four drivers and hope to expand its driver base to serve Prince George.

“We strive to provide a safe and affordable transportation option for people in Prince George,” said Founder Ryan Staley. We have been working to make sure we have safety procedures in place to protect riders and drivers from COVID-19, including having barriers between the front and back seats and sanitizing between riders.”

After receiving approval from the Passenger Transportation Board at the end of February, the launch of Coastal Rides service was delayed due to COVID-19. The company was originally set to launch two weeks ago, however, Staley wanted to ensure they had a reliable service as they only had two drivers in Prince George.

Coastal Rides is also seeking additional qualified drivers right now. Drivers must have a commercial driving license, clean police and driving records, and a vehicle that is no more than 10 years old.

By downloading the Coastal Rides app it will help passengers and drivers find one another and estimate the cost of the ride in advance. The base fare for each ride will begin at $4.00.
