VICTORIA–One new case of COVID-19 in the Northern Health Region was reported in today’s (July 27) COVID-19 update.

The one new case is related to the outbreak in Haida Gwaii which was reported last week. Provincially 81 new cases of the virus were announced, including seven epi-linked ones since Friday’s update.

Cases by Health Region:

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 1,064
  • Fraser Health: 1,800
  • Vancouver Island Health: 143
  • Interior Health: 353
  • Northern Health: 80
  • People who reside outside of Canada: 60

The additional cases bring B.C.’s total to 3,500 test positive cases of the virus with 264 of those deemed active.

Two new deaths were reported at long term care facilities in the Vancouver Coastal Health region. Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry also amended the Order that limits mass gatherings, something she previewed last week.

This will now limit those at short-term rentals and vacation accommodations, such as cabins, boats and hotels to a maximum of five visitors. “The number of people is limited to the capacity of the space,” said Henry. “It is the responsibility of the owner of the property to ensure that the order is adhered to,” added the Provincial Health Officer, mentioning that these services will need to contact trace in case there is an outbreak.

There are now 1,010 people in self-isolation across the province due to the fact that they have been exposed to COVID-19.

“If you have been told to self-isolate, this is not optional, this is a requirement.” –Dr. Bonnie Henry, B.C. Provincial Health Officer

Henry advised British Columbians to begin planning for a safe long weekend, adding that we should head outdoors but safely, “go play outside but play safe,” said Henry.

3,043 people have recovered from COVID-19 in B.C.
