PRINCE GEORGE–Prince George residents will be able to catch their first glimpse of the new circulation area at the Prince George Public Library today (July 28).

The Bob Harkins branch will open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Measures will be in place to ensure proper physical distancing, such as only allowing 20 people inside the branch at a time. Sanitation protocols will also be in place.

On-going construction at the Bob Harkins branch will limit service to borrowing and dropping off library materials. Visitors will also have to access the Library through the entrance off Canada Games Plaza, between the Library and Prince George Conference and Civic Centre. The parkade entrance is closed in order to help staff manage the number of people in the library at a time.

The Library entrance and circulation desk project involves the installation of a two-and-a-half storey addition to the north side of the Library and a new circulation area. The project integrates eco-features, such as the Library’s new circulation desk countertop, which is made of PaperStone–a material that is manufactured using recycled paper and non-petroleum resin.

According to the City, the Library’s original entrance design posed a bit of a challenge for some, including young families, people with disabilities, seniors, and staff.

Once the project is completed the library will feature an elevator with access from both sides providing access from the parking area, plaza level, main floor, and second floor. As well as improved stairs for access to the main lobby to the second floor, windows for more natural light, and sliding doors.
