VICTORIA—29 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in B.C. today (July 30), none of those were in the Northern Health region.

The north remains at 86 test-positive cases, with Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry saying that no new cases were reported on Haida Gwaii, however, that there is still potential for more cases to show up in that community, in the coming days.

Cases by Health Region:

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 1,076
  • Fraser Health: 1,865
  • Vancouver Island Health: 143
  • Interior Health: 360
  • Northern Health: 86
  • People who reside outside of Canada: 61

The additional cases bring B.C. to a total of 3,591 test-positive cases of the virus in B.C. No new deaths were reported, the province remains at 194 deaths.

No new health care or community outbreaks were announced. There are currently 242 active cases of COVID-19 with five of those in hospital, and two of those in ICU.

“We know that the potential for the virus to spread increases (in large groups) and we’ve seen the impact of that.”—Dr. Bonnie Henry, Provincial Health Officer

Henry says that British Columbia felt the impacts of COVID-19 because of Canada Day celebrations, particularly in the Okanagan and is reminding British Columbians this long weekend to have fun but be safe.

Celebrating B.C. Day long weekend in smaller groups instead of in large groups is what Dr. Henry has recommended as she says she understands the urge, especially for younger adults, to want to socialize and have fun.
