Lakoduk excited for opportunity with the Kings

There were plenty of fresh faces last year on the Spruce Kings and they were one of the youngest teams in the BCHL.

During the off-season, the club has gone out and added some veterans to their group which includes forward Darwin Lakoduk who split last season between the Penticton Vees and Victoria Grizzlies.

“I think it was good. Once I got traded to Penticton I was on a really good team and it was a lot of fun there. It sucks our season got cut short,” shared Lakoduk to CKPG.

Penticton was one of eight teams remaining in the BCHL playoffs when the season was officially cancelled.

Fast forward to early June, and Lakoduk received the news he would be going from the Okanagan to the Northern B.C Capital.

However, players and teams will have to wait until at least December 1st before they get back on the ice with their teams for game action, and it’s safe to say the 20-year-old Edmonton product is chomping at the bit to get back on the ice and join his new teammates.

“It’s weird because we’re not allowed to play any games when we are on the ice. It will be nice to get back into it when I get to Prince George, get some exhibition games, and get moving around with my new teammates,” said Lakoduk.

When it comes to goals for his final year of Junior hockey, there is no doubt that the Edmonton product has his eyes on the big prize.

“Honestly, the only thing I want to accomplish is to win the whole thing,” stated Lakoduk.

“I want to play hockey until the end of May. That’s my goal.”
