PRINCE GEORGE — Good news for movie lovers.

Cineplex in Prince George reopened today, (Aug.14) after being closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic back in March.

Sarah Van Lange, Executive Director of Communications, Community and Social Media, with Cineplex, told CKPG News in an over the phone interview that there are three movies playing. The first movie, of the first day–making its debut –was The Spongebob Movie, followed by Unhinged and a showing of Inception, which is celebrating it’s ten year anniversary. For those looking to visit the theatre, the movie experience will be a bit different than pre-pandemic times. For a list of health and safety measures being taken by Cineplex, click here.

“We are also rolling out reserved seating at all of our theatres across Canada.”–Sarah Van Lange, Executive Director of Communications, Community and Social Media, Cineplex

This new protocol will help abide by physical distancing measures. When a seat has been reserved, you are in fact reserving two seats to allow for space between you and other guests. “Every other row will be empty so there won’t be anybody sitting in front of you, there won’t be anyone sitting behind you and there’ll be two or three seats…between you and the other closest guest,” said Van Lange. She adds that the auditorium capacity has been reduced by as much as 60-80 per cent, depending on its size.

Concession will be available to those who choose to hit the theatre, with popcorn, nachos, as well as fountain drinks and candy, however, there are plans to roll out more concession items over the coming weeks. Van Lange also suggests viewers arrive at the theatre 15 minutes before their show.
