Aug 19, 2020 | 11:24 AM

HOUSTON–RCMP have identified two suspects in connection with an arson on the Morice Forest Service road that occurred sometime between Friday, Aug.14 and Saturday, Aug.15.

A 24-year-old male and 19-year-old male were identified, both are Burns Lake residents and were employed in the Houston area.

Police say the fire was originally reported to the BC RCMP Community-Industry Response Group (CIRG) Quick Response Team(QRT) members who had been working in the Houston area and attended the scene. When members of the CIRG QRT arrived they secured the scene and conducted a preliminary sweep of the area.

“This is a priority for the detachment and could have ended tragically had there been anyone in the building.”–Sgt Mark Smaill, NCO i/c Houston RCMP detachment

The area appeared to have been unoccupied at the time of the fire and no one was located at the scene. The Forensic Identification Section was also called to the scene to process any evidence gathered in the area. Through the investigation, evidence of “take auto without owners’ consent” was discovered.

RCMP say the investigation is ongoing and will be forwarded to the BC Prosecution Services for review of potential charges. Anyone with information is asked to contact Houston RCMP at 250-845-2204.
