Update: One person killed in Highway 97 head-on collision

PRINCE GEORGE — Update: Prince George RCMP now say one person was killed in today’s vehicle incident, a head-on collision, at Highway 97 near the Old Cariboo Highway.

Cst.Sonja Blom says it happened at 4:30 p.m. and says one person was pronounced deceased at the scene. The other person was taken to hospital for treatment of unknown injuries.

She says RCMP and North District Traffic Services remain on scene and expect the highway to be closed for hours as the investigation continues.

Accordiing to Drive BC a detour is available at Holmes Road and the Old Cariboo Highway.

Earlier: A vehicle incident this evening has closed Highway 97 in both directions at Pineview (Holmes Road).

According to Drive BC, an assessment is in progress and a detour is available through Holmes Road and the Old Cariboo Highway.

No word yet on when the highway will reopen or if anyone was injured.
