PRINCE GEORGE – It’s quite the feat, claiming your third Simon Fraser Open title in as many years the same summer ahead of you heading to Simon Fraser University and becoming an NCAA athlete.

Natasha Kozlowski did just that, however, scoring 152 over the weekend at the Prince George Golf and Curling Club.

Rounding out the top three was Lisa Kerley (155) and Betty Ann Shiels (163).

According to GM Don McDermid, while COVID-19 has had its impacts on tournament play this summer at the course, the tough female golfers still found their way out to the tournament.

“We’ve had a little smaller field this year. Usually, they’d get out to the 70 to 75 range. They’re down to 43 golfers this year. But the top golfers in the area are still represented here from all of the clubs,” said McDermid.

Having held the Men’s Simon Fraser Open two weeks ago, McDermid said golfers were fairly happy with both events that were put on despite the changes they needed to make as a result fo the pandemic.

As for Kozlowski, she was thoroughly satisfied with the course conditions over the weekend and happy to be back competing.

“It was certainly nice to have a bit of a competition this week. We had the Junior Simon earlier this week, which was a fun competition. It was just nice to have some competition again,” explained Kozlowski.

After spending last year at the University of Fraser Valley, she’s since transferred to Simon Fraser University, Canada’s lone NCAA ranked school. She says she’s always wanted to compete at the NCAA level as she will also be studying Criminology.

Due to the pandemic, the fall semester will serve Kozlowski more as a practice period as no tournaments have been scheduled. Instead, she hopes to prepare for the spring season in hopes of hitting the links for competition then.
