PRINCE GEORGE – It may be August, but scarfs and sweaters season is just around the corner as cooler days and wet weather are on the way.

This means the risk for forest fires continues to drop in our region.

The changing weather is good news for officials in the Prince George Fire Centre especially after an early start to the fire season.

In our region, the Doig River wildfire kept crews busy during the month of April.

The lower than average wildfire starts this season allowed for BC Wildfire Service to lift fire bans in some areas of the Province.

Last year provincial fire crews dealt with 825 wildfires at a cost of 182 million dollars.

According to the BC Wild Fire centre, the drop in the number of wildfires in our region was because of the high amount of precipitation.

It’s not the end of summer or fire season yet. However, warmer temperatures are unlikely. Fire officials say it’s slowing down, but they’re not out of the woods just yet.
