12 new cases of COVID-19 in Northern Health, 294 in B.C.

Four new deaths were reported over the weekend. There are currently 1,007 active cases in B.C., in all health authorities.

There is one new outbreak in the health-care system, and two were declared over this weekend for a total of 10 active outbreaks in health-care. No new community outbreaks were reported, however, Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry did note the community alert in Northern Health, in the Prespatou area, and is asking anyone who attended events or gatherings over the past several weeks to self-monitor for symptoms.

“We must prepare for the respiratory season ahead,” she said during a COVID-19 media availability.

But what does it mean to be ‘ready?’ “Being ready means all of us getting back to the basics that we know takes to control this outbreak. That means going back to our layers of protection and our personal COVID-19 safety plans for us and our families,” said Henry.

For the fall, the peak of respiratory illness, Henry says we must continue to enforce COVID-19 health and safety measures on our own accord. Washing our hands, social distancing, reducing in-person interactions, physical distancing and wearing a mask when physical distancing isn’t possible will be even more important during the fall, according to Henry.
