PRINCE GEORGE— The Fraser Institute has come out with their Report Card on British Columbia’s Secondary Schools, 2020, and that means local secondaries have received a ranking.

This year’s report ranked 252 public and independent secondary schools based on six academic indicators using province-wide exams, grade-to-grade transition rates and graduation rates.

Prince George Secondary Schools rankings:

  • D.P. Todd Secondary was ranked 235/252 secondary schools in B.C., with a 3.5/10 score
  • Kelly Road Secondary was ranked 218/252 secondary schools in B.C., with a 4.3/10 score
  • PGSS was ranked 185/252 secondary schools in B.C., with a 5.0/10 score
  • Duchess Park Secondary was ranked 148/252 secondary schools in B.C., with a 5.6/10 score
  • College Heights Secondary was ranked 63/252 secondary schools in B.C., with a 7.0/10 score

“Parents should use this Report Card every year to see how their child’s school is doing, and if necessary, ask the principal how he or she plans to turn things around,” said Peter Cowley, senior fellow at the Fraser Institute.

Of the top fifty schools in the report, 29 are independent schools, while 21 are public. 22 schools in B.C. showed improvement in their scores from last year. “We often hear that some schools are doomed to perform poorly because of the communities and students they serve, but that’s just not true—every school can improve and rank higher than the year before,” added Cowley.

Crofton House Secondary in Vancouver, Little Flower Secondary in Vancouver, Southridge Secondary in Surrey and West Point Grey in Vancouver were all ranked 1/252 schools with a 10/10 score.
