BC Wildfire Service sending firefighters to help US

Sep 15, 2020 | 4:46 PM

PRINCE GEORGE – BC Wildfire Service is committing 192 firefighters and 15 personnel to help fight fires south of the border. The firefighters will be sent to Oregon as early as September 17.

Wildfires in the US have impacted air quality in parts of BC, and across Canada in recent days.

This has raised the question of whether the Prince George Fire Centre will be sending anybody to assist with the fires south of the border.

The Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre is coordinating details of the deployment with the National Interagency Coordination Centre in the US. As well, BC is in contact with the states of Oregon and Washington on the possibility of sending more firefighters to help.

Although it is not currently known where the firefighters deploy from, the Premier’s Office is expected to release more information on Thursday.
