Crosswalk upgrades in progress

PRINCE GEORGE—Upgrades to the pedestrian crossing across Ospika Blvd. at Davis Rd. are taking place this week.

The City of Prince George says the new crosswalk is being upgraded from its basic design to one that will include a “rectangular rapid flashing beacon” design. The new design will allow pedestrians to push a button to activate flashing lights in order to alert motorists of a crossing pedestrian. The project’s completion date is scheduled for the end of the month.

Later in the fall a similar design will be installed at the crosswalk on Ospika and 1st Ave.

Both of the crosswalk upgrades were recommended as part of the City’s first-ever Pedestrian Crossing Strategy, earlier this summer. The Strategy provides a prioritization strategy to implement pedestrian crossing upgrades as prescribed by the updated Pedestrian Crossing Control Guide by the Transportation Association of Canada.
