VANCOUVER—165 new cases of COVID-19, including two epi-linked cases, were reported this (Sept.17) afternoon—a new single-day high in B.C.

The additional cases bring the total of provincial COVID-19 cases since the start of the pandemic to 7,663.

In Northern Health, 4 new cases were announced for a total of 241 test-positive cases since the beginning of the pandemic.

1,705 cases are active at the moment in all health authorities. 2,949 people are being monitored by public health for being exposed to a known case. There is one new death in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, bringing B.C.’s death toll to 220. 57 people are in hospital with 22 of those in ICU.

“Today a new made in BC sample collection program has been launched for all K-12 students across the province and it is one of the first of its kind around the world.”—Dr. Bonnie Henry, B.C. provincial health officer

B.C.’s provincial health officer announced earlier today (Thursday) a new way to test children if there are concerns they may have COVID-19; this as students resume in-class instruction.

The BC Centre for Disease Control also added Northern Health to the list of health regions able to see if there any schools that may have been exposed to the virus. Once again Dr. Henry emphasized the importance of limiting our out of home social encounters to a max of six people, in order to help contain the virus as we head into the fall/winter months (previously referred to as the respiratory illness months).

A total of 5,719 people have recovered from COVID-19.
