PRINCE GEORGE – Due to the impacts made by COVID-19, Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation refocused this year’s Spirit Day in order to appreciate how healthcare touches us all.

Traditionally, donations have gone towards selected equipment for UHNBC, but this year sponsors will get to decide where the funds will go to support.

“We’re really allowing people to pick the area of healthcare that’s nearest and dearest to them. We know that healthcare touches us all but each of us in different ways. I think it’s only fair to scan the community to find where they want to see their dollars spent.”

The fundraiser was formerly known as the radiothon but was re-branded 3 years ago to Spirit Day, as it is known now. Since it’s inception, the event has raised over $680,000 towards equipment for the University Hospital of Northern BC.

“We just feel that healthcare touches everybody but we would like to know where they would like to direct their money to, and it’s important for us to know that.”

The event was based out of the Prestige Treasure Cove Resort at the corner of Highway 97 and 16 in Prince George with the goal of raising $60,000 and outdid that goal by raising $90,369.

With donations surpassing their goal during the event, Spirit of the North will still accept donations after Spirit Day through the link on their website.
