Cost for ‘dooring’ a cyclist is about to quadrouple in price
VICTORIA—As of Monday, September 21 the fine for “dooring” a cyclist is going up.
Dooring is when someone opens the door of a parked vehicle when it is not reasonably safe to do so. The fine, will almost quadruple from its current price of $81, to $368.
“Dooring is a common safety issue for cyclists in all communities throughout the province.”—Release by Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure
The Province says that increasing the fine will help increase cyclist safety by making drivers more aware of how opening their car door when it is unsafe to do so can seriously injure an approaching cyclist. A public education and awareness campaign is being launched along with the increase in fine.
