Worksafe BC fines Cariboo sausage maker after accident injures employee

LAC LA HACHE, B.C. — Worksafe BC has fined a Cariboo meat processor has been fined after a gruesome workplace accident.

In a penalty summary, Worksafe says the fine comes after an inspection of Country Prime Meats in Lac La Hache.

It notes a worker cleaning a meat flaker machine reached to remove a cover plate from the machine’s conveyor trough when the worker “contacted the rotating screw auger.”

Worksafe says the worker sustained serious injuries.

The investigator noted the meat flaker machine had not been powered down nor locked for maintenance.
