Northern Health admits COVID-19 cases could include health care workers

PRINCE GEORGE–With an increase in COVID-19 cases in Northern Health and across B.C., there is a possibility for them to include health care workers.

“We don’t confirm cases publicly outside of specific scenarios,” said Eryn Collins, spokesperson for Northern Health in an over the phone interview. Some of those specific scenarios include exposures in school communities, and potential public exposures or outbreaks.

“With the rise in COVID cases generally, both across the province and in the north, it’s not unexpected that some of those cases will be in health care workers.”–Eryn Collins, spokesperson, Northern Health

Collins says it’s important to not assume that any previous or future cases in the health care system are always work-related, “given all the safety plans and processes in health care settings the risk of that being the source of contact is much lower than in general,” said Collins. She goes on to explain that patients are being screened for COVID-19 symptoms before receiving treatments.
