PRINCE GEORGE – The CN Centre was built to seat close to six thousand people. When it was opened in 1995 it was known as the Prince George Multiplex.

This month marks the 25th anniversary of a building that has become an icon of the region.

On September 28, 1995, proud residents and dignitaries gathered in front of the newest building in the city. Five months away from the completion dated, the Multiplex was open.

The near 20 million dollar project was built with the help of close to 200 hundred workers. In 2005, Canadian National Railway purchased the naming rights to the building which has previously been known as the Multiplex.

The facility has hosted many entertainment and sporting events. At one time it held a rally that helped change the face of healthcare in the north.

The CN Centre has NHL size ice surface and is able to convert to an Olympic-sized ice surface. It is home to the Prince George Cougars ice hockey team.

In 2015, the CN Centre hosted the 2015 Canada Winter Games. It is linked to three other arenas, creating a multi-functional four arena complex.
