PRINCE GEORGE—Smoke may be visible today (Oct 1) as the BC Wildfire Service and BC Timber Sales staff conduct a prescribed burn 20 kms north of Blue River on the west side of Hwy.5.
The burn will cover 10.6 hectares and help prepare the area for reforestation, by improving access for tree planters and increasing the quality and quantity of planting spots. The project will also help reduce the risk of future wildfires by reducing accumulations of surface fuels.
The BC Wildfire Service says that all burning activities will adhere to the Open Burning and Smoke Control Regulation to ensure that the project does not affect the air quality in nearby communities.
