Furstenau promises shift in long-term care model

VICTORIA–Green Leader Sonia Furstenau is promising to shift long-term care homes away from a for-profit model if her party wins next month’s election.
Furstenau says the COVID-19 pandemic shone a spotlight on the discrepancy in care between for-profit and not-for-profit care facilities for seniors.
She says her party would begin to shift the sector to a mix of non-for-profit, community-based services and co-ops, and ensure caregivers get the pay they deserve.
The pledge comes a day after N-D-P leader John Horgan promised to spend 1.4-billion dollars over the next decade to build new long-term care facilities.
