NDP Laura Parent launches campaign

PRINCE GEORGE – The campaign kicked off today at Connaught Hill Park for the NDP candidate for Prince George-Valemount, Laura Parent.

Parent, 21 years old, studies Political Science at UNBC and is Vice-Chair of the university’s senate.

Parent is running against incumbent Shirley Bond, the Libertarian candidate Sean Robson, and the Green Party’s Mackenzie Kerr, who also studies at UNBC.

Parent says, “obviously this campaign is really different from the ones we’re all experienced with in the past, we can’t do the things that we’re normally used to, no door knocking.”

Parent notes that masks and conference calls will also play a role in the campaign this election, during the pandemic.

Parent says “my biggest issue is health care and health care accessibility in northern B.C., and Prince George, and Valemount of course.”

Another issue that Parent will campaign on is the B.C. North Bus. Parent says, “that was created by the B.C. NDP following the announcement that Greyhound would no longer be offering services in northern B.C. So the NDP created that program, and I’m so excited about where it’s gone, and I would like to see it expanded.”
