Logging truck driver takes run at public office

PRINCE GEORGE — A 37-year-old Prince George man is making his first run at public office.

Sean Robson is one of four candidates vying for victory in the Prince George-Valemount riding.

Born in Surrey, Robson moved to Prince George when he was 10 years old. The single father is a log truck driver and says he became interested in politics during the 2008 recession after leaving the military.

He says he’s running on a number of issues.

“ICBC is one of them. I really want to see the end of ICBC. They spend (governments) a lot of time basically robbing ICBC blind once it turns a profit,” he says.

“Another big one is the income tax exemptions. Libertarians want to bring the exemption up to about $35,000 for everybody which I think is great. We want to go after BC Hydro and so do I. It’s time to open up that market as much as possible and bring in other investors who want to start producing power in British Columbia. Competition will bring down our prices.”

The other candidates running in Prince George-Valemount are Liberal incumbent Shirley Bond, the NDP’s Laura Parent and Mackenzie Kerr of the BC Green Party.

General election day is set for October 24.
