QUESNEL — Two men have been arrested following a rural crime spree in the Quesnel area.

Sgt. Richard Weseen of the Quesnel RCMP says the night of crime ended for both men when they were located with a stolen vehicle and in possession of several firearms.

He says it all started at 5 a.m. on Oct. 13 when police received a report that heavy equipment was stolen from a logging site on the 1300 Road, east of town.

“While en route, the police located two men from Williams Lake in a stolen vehicle,” says Weseen. “A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of four long barrel firearms that had been previously stolen from the Williams Lake area.”

He says an investigation revealed that the men had driven to a mine site on the 1300 Road in a Dodge truck that was stolen from Williams Lake.

“When the truck became stuck, the men tried to pull the vehicle out with a bulldozer they stole from a logging camp. When that failed, they lit the truck on fire” says Weseen.

He says the men then stole a worksite ambulance but were arrested before they could leave the area.

Later in the morning, Weseen says a worker reported two other suspicious men on the 1300 Road. He says police located the two men and learned they were also from the Williams Lake area. The investigation into their involvement is still ongoing.

Weseen says this is a prime example that property crime offenders and prolific offenders have no boundaries.

“A big shout out has to go to the workers in the area that reported suspicious activity, as it was timely and assisted in the investigation.”
