PRINCE GEORGE—A total of 680,309 mail-in ballots have been distributed so far across the province for this year’s fall election.

According to Elections BC’s website, as of Oct.13 at 11:59 p.m, nearly 10,000 of those have been in the Prince George ridings.

So far this year 4,288 vote-by-mail packages have been requested in the Prince George-Mackenzie riding and 4,341 in Prince George-Valemount—surpassing the provincial total of vote-by-mail packages distributed provincially in the last election.

Back in September B.C.’s chief electoral officer that he expected as much as 40 per cent of the ballots cast in the election to be sent in the mail. UNBC Political Scientist, Jason Morris says that having the option to vote by mail may even increase voter participation this year.

“The challenges are simply administrative in terms of getting all those ballots filled out correctly and sent in and then counted not just accurately but also efficiently so that British Columbians know within a reasonable amount of time who the next government of the province is.” —Jason Morris, UNBC Political Scientist
