Terrace RCMP dispose of explosives
TERRACE—RCMP in Terrace disposed of explosives earlier this week.
Terrace RCMP say they received a report on Tuesday, Oct.13 at 3:43 p.m. of explosive material by the Thornhill Fire Department. Police say that a homeowner discovered the explosive described to have had fuses, detonation cords and possible nitroglycerine—a highly explosive compound— in a shed.
“The incident was well managed by the police and there was excellent collaboration between the local Detachment, EDU and Thornhill Fire Department.”—Inspector Jayson Lucash, Terrace RCMP
Surrounding residents were notified and RCMP secured the area until the Explosives Destruction Unit (EDU) arrived. When the EDU arrived they decided to not move the explosives due to the volatility of the material. Residents in the surrounding area were then evacuated.
