Power outages affecting Prince George and area residents

PRINCE GEORGE — The switch has been flipped, literally.

Throughout the day Friday numerous power outages left residents in many areas in and around Prince George in the dark.

BC Hydro says at it’s peak over 6,000 customers were without power, but crews have managed to work through the outages and restore all power.

BC Hydro Community Relations Manager for Northern BC, Bob Gammer says it’s a combination of multiple factors that led to such a large number of outages.

“It is an early start to the winter season, and with the leaves are still on the trees those leaves collect wet and heavy snow and put stress on the branches,” says Gammer.

Gammer says many of the power outages seen today were caused by trees which haven’t shed their leaves yet, blindsided by the snow.
