BC Coroner’s Service releases data on overdose deaths
VICTORIA – The BC Coroner’s Service has released its report on illicit drug deaths. The report shows that Fentanyl has been detected in overdose deaths more over the past few years.
There were 127 illicit drug overdoses for all of BC in the month of September alone. Fentanyl was detected in 94 of those overdose deaths.
According to the new report, Northern Health saw 75 overdose deaths so far in 2020 where Fentanyl was detected. That is up from last year, which saw 53 overdoses where Fentanyl was present.
Northern Interior, specifically, saw 46 deaths where Fentanyl was detected. The new report only includes data up until the end of September.
