Theatre NorthWest adapts to pandemic with stage readings

PRINCE GEORGE – Theatre NorthWest is announcing their next stage reading, a play called Hurry Hard! by Kristen Da Silva. The play is a comedy about small towns and curling rinks.

The stage reading is being directed by Bradley Charles. He says “It is exciting to be trying a work that may get a full production in the future.”

Stage readings, in pre-pandemic times, refered to a read through of the play by actors. An audience is invited so the director can get a sense of what is working, and how the play will be received.

Marnie Hamagami, Executive Director of Theatre NorthWest says “now in the case of the readings we’re doing here at Theatre NorthWest, none of them are new works, they’re all works that have been performed before.”

For example, they did a reading of The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde on October 10. Last weekend it was Where You Are by Kristen Da Silva.

Hamagami says “we thought that it was a good thing to adapt to COVID for right now. It allows our artists to stay apart from each other, to maintain distance, and it also allows our audiences to come and see theatre being performed.”

The stage readings will continue for the next couple months, until full scale productions can resume.
