Nigerian community plans rally in Prince George

PRINCE GEORGE – In light of the #EndSARS protests in Nigeria, which is making international headlines, the Nigerian community is planning their own rally in Prince George.

The Special Anti-Robbery Squad in Nigeria is being accused of police brutality. The #EndSARS movement is raising awareness of the brutality that Nigerians face in their home country.

Obinna Nwachukwu plans to attend the rally, which is taking place at Mr. PG on Sunday. He says that the Nigerian government is not helping them, and protestors often have their wages withheld for speaking out.

Nwachukwu says “lots of citizens have even died in their hands.” He also says the problem has been ongoing for many years, now.

He says “in Nigeria your freedom of speech is guaranteed, but freedom after speech is not guaranteed.”

Recently, Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari called on his country to cease protests and to engage constructively with government solutions.

Nwachukwu is hoping for a stronger international response from leaders to help Nigerian citizens.
