Board of Education will see change

PRINCE GEORGE – There will be a shuffle around the Board of Education at the start of next month.

Tim Bennett started at Vice-Chair of the Board of Education since 2012 and Chair since 2016. And he’s been handling some of the tough decisions over things like budgets, school re-naming and COVID.

But at the inaugural meeting on November 3, Bennett will no longer be the Chair, as he has opted not to put his name forward this time around.

“A lot has changed in my life, even in the last four years,” he says. “I now have a family of three young boys at home. Big Brothers, Big Sisters is continuing to expand, I’m now serving the province on the BC School Trustees Association Board of Directors. And we have a really strong team around the Board table and I let them know back in September that I was ready to pass the baton.”

But he says he also wants to return to the Board of Education simply as a trustee.

“I want to be back at the Board table and use my voice as a Trustee and use my voice that I was elected to use and sometimes you’re just not able to do that when you’re sitting, serving the District as Chair.”

He says there will be elections for the Board executive at the November 3 meeting.
