7 new cases of COVID-19 in Northern Health, 234 new cases in BC

PRINCE GEORGE – There are seven new cases of COVID-19 in Northern Health, and 234 provincially as the active case count continues to grow.

There are now 2,344 active cases in BC, up by 28 cases provincially from Wednesday.

One new death was also announced by BC Health Officials by an 80-year-old woman in the Fraser Health region after contracting the virus at a small birthday party where a guest did not know they had the virus.

There are 86 people in hospital, 24 of whom are in critical care or ICU.

BC Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry emphasized that there should be no Halloween parties this weekend, and to limit social interactions with those outside your ‘safe six’

“For most of us our homes do not have the space to keep that safe space we need from others right now,” says Dr. Bonnie Henry.

BC Minister of Health-elect Adrian Dix says the province has continued to hire additional contact tracers to assist with a growing task provincially.

16 additional contact tracers have been hired in Northern Health to assist with efforts as exposure events continue to occur.

“Learn, adapt, and stop the spread,” the new catchphrase mentioned by Dix this afternoon.

Thursday, Immaculate Conception reported a possible public exposure between October 21-23. The second possible school exposure in Prince George, and the ninth in Northern Health.
