Poppies of PG: Local organizer hopes you can transform your hearts into poppies

PRINCE GEORGE – You may remember the ‘Hearts of PG’ campaign back in March started by Prince George resident Bailey Grose.

Now, Grose hopes you can turn your window hearts into window poppies and display them to show support for veterans.

“I have two daughters, one is in Kindergarten, and the other is in Grade Two,” says Grose. “With the ceremonies turned virtual this year I thought this was a way to show support for those who have served and those who are currently serving,”

Local MLA-elect Shirley Bond fully endorses the campaign and hopes Prince George can unite in different ways to show support this year even if it isn’t standing around the cenotaph at 11 a.m.

There is a lot of meaning behind the idea for the organizer, every year for Bailey Grose Remembrance Day hits close to home.

Grose’s grandparents are veterans making the day even more meaningful for her and her family.

“This is a fun and interactive way to get your kids involved and have those conversations about why Remembrance Day is so important,” says Grose.

The normal Prince George Remembrance Day ceremonies will not be held in-person this year, instead, you can watch them on CKPG TV starting at 10:30 a.m.

Event organizers are asking that Prince George residents do not visit the Cenotaph in person at 11 a.m., rather that they stand at the end of their driveway, their balcony or doorway at 11 a.m. for two minutes of silence.
