Rent freeze re-extended

Nov 9, 2020 | 11:21 AM

VICTORIA–The Province is re-extending rent freezes across the province.

The extension will freeze rent increases until July 10, 2021. Increases were originally set to return on December 1, 2020 but are now being cancelled, along with all pending increases through to July of next year.

“We know many renters are still facing income loss and even the slightest increase in rent could be extremely challenging. For that reason, we are extending the freeze on rent increases to provide more security for renters during the pandemic.”–Selina Robinson, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing

The freeze is possible under the powers of the Emergency Program Act and COVID-19 Related Measures Act.
