As the Prince George Spruce Kings get ready for a busy weekend which will see them play three games in three days, the club announced Thursday morning who will be leading them into battle this season.

The club has announced 20-year-old defenceman Mason Waite as their Captain for the 20/21 season.

Waite was acquired by the Spruce Kings in September of 2019 from the Lloydminster Bobcats of the AJHL and had 7 goals and 22 assists last season in his first year with the Kings.

He is also committed to St. Lawrence University for the 21/22 season.

In a press release sent out by the team, Waite spoke about how honoured he was to be named the club’s Captain.

“We have such an experienced group of guys, so to be named the Captain is very humbling and a true honour. With all of the veteran presence that we have, I think the leadership runs from top to bottom on this team and we are super excited to get the regular season started.”

Joining Waite will be Corey Cunningham and Kolton Cousins as Assistants.

Cunningham is in his 4th year with the Kings and is committed to Merrimack College.

“I am humbled and honoured to be a part of the leadership group,” stated Cunningham in the same press release.

“I have been a part of this organization for a while and to now be a leader is extremely exciting.”

Meanwhile, Cousins is in his 3rd year in the BCHL, 2nd with the Kings and has played in 115 BCHL games in his career.

“To be recognized as one of the leaders for the Prince George Spruce Kings is an honour. It’s an absolute privilege to be able to wake up every day and have the opportunity to throw on a Spruce Kings jersey,” explained Cousins in the team press release.

Following the end of the pre-season, the club will announce the remainder of their leadership group.

The Kings will continue pre-season play Friday night in Cranbrook when they battle the expansion Bucks at 6:00 p.m.
