COVID Update

1,959 new cases of COVID-19 in B.C. over the weekend

PRINCE GEORGE – Dr. Bonnie Henry and Minister of Health, Adrian Dix, provided the latest COVID-19 numbers today. There were 1,959 new cases of COVID-19 in B.C. over the weekend.

654 people were diagnosed with COVID-19 from Friday to Saturday. 659 cases were from Saturday to Sunday.

646 of those cases were from yesterday, up until today.

Cases by Region (over the weekend):

• Vancouver Coastal Health: 455
• Fraser Health: 1,361
• Vancouver Island Health: 41
• Interior Health: 87
• Northern Health: 14
• Outside of Canada: 1

There were nine new deaths over the weekend.

Dr. Bonnie Henry says, “As the number of cases and outbreaks is showing, we are in the most challenging of times. We have come through a wave, we’re now in the midst of our second.”

Dr. Henry also says the reason that there hasn’t been a provincial order mandating masks is that, in many places people are already wearing them.

She says “this is not to say masks are not important. We have learned about the importance of masks over this past ten months, and we know that they are yet another important measure that we must all embrace.”

She also warns against recreational or non-essential travel between regions, and across provinces.

Dr. Henry says “getting through this surge in new cases and through this pandemic requires all of us to go back to thinking about the important things we knew that we need to keep doing.”

Minister of Health Adrian Dix says “we all have to be involved in stopping the spread in those regions, and in every region in B.C.”
